RVSI Gets $1.1 Million Order for New High-Speed Semiconductor Strip Handler
OMRON Automation - Americas Posted 08/14/2000
CANTON, MASSACHUSETTS - Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) (NASDAQ: ROBV) today said it has received a $1.1 million order for a new semiconductor strip handler. The sale was made to a major U.S. chip manufacturer for delivery to Asia and was made by RVSI's Systemation Division in New Berlin, WI.
The new product, called the CST-90, processes semiconductors in strip format - an array of packaged integrated circuits that have not yet been separated into individual chips. RVSI's system removes the chips from strips and packages them in tape-and-reel media while simultaneously inspecting for common defects.
"This is a new product area for RVSI, but it is an outgrowth of our existing work in inspection and media transfer of assembled integrated circuits," said Val Taruntaev, President - RVSI Systemation. "We bring a very good understanding of our customers evolving need for integrated circuit processing, and we have just the right expertise in machine vision inspection and handling for the task. This first order is gratifying because the scale of the commitment and the fact that it precedes the CST-90's formal introduction. I believe this is an indication of our customer's confidence in our concept and capabilities."
