Norske Skog Selects Cognex for Web Inspection

NATICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2001--Cognex Corporation CGNX, the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, announced today that Norske Skog, the second largest supplier of newsprint in the world, has integrated two Cognex SmartView(TM) ICN web inspection systems at their Saugbrugs mill in Halden, Norway.
The Cognex SmartView systems will be used on Norske Skog's manufacturing line to check their products for defects such as holes, dirt particles, contaminants, and edge cracks. The Cognex machine vision systems will be installed on parallel super-calender machines, which apply a gloss coating to the paper.

SmartView is a state-of-the-art web inspection system that is used to automatically detect, identify, and display defects in papers and other materials as they are being produced. Cognex has sold over 100 SmartView systems since its release in February, 2000, making it the most successful product launch in the history of Cognex's Surface Inspection Systems Division.
