Don Cochran Receives 2008 Automated Imaging Achievement Award

(Orlando, Florida – February 13, 2008) Don W. Cochran, Chairman and CEO of Pressco Technology Inc., was presented with the 2008 Automated Imaging Achievement Award during a ceremony held at the Automated Imaging Association’s (AIA) 16th Annual Business Conference in Orlando, Florida.
Mr. Cochran was nominated by AIA members and selected from a talented pool of candidates by its Board of Directors, who wished to recognize Mr. Cochran for his accomplishments and for his outstanding contributions to the machine vision and imaging industry. The award was presented by John Merva, AIA’s 2007 President and Vice President - Business Development of CCS America Inc.
Said Mr. Merva, ‘‘Don was a pioneer in the machine vision industry and has been a driver and innovator to this day. Through his efforts and business practices, he has brought the benefits of machine vision inspection to many companies’‘. Mr. Merva continued, ‘‘in doing so, he has helped the industry obtain a respectable, legitimate image from which we all benefit. We are all indebted to Don for this.’‘
Mr. Cochran has over four decades of experience in high-production manufacturing, factory automation, robotic systems, and automated machine vision inspection. In 1982, Mr. Cochran founded Pressco Automation Group, developing it into a market leading provider of high-speed machine vision inspection systems. The company’s primary market focus is in the food, beverage, and container industries with approximately 60% of its production exported internationally.
Mr. Cochran was recognized for 40 years of innovation and leadership in the machine vision industry. He holds 17 US patents relative to machine vision, lighting and optics, and has other US and International patents pending. Also serving as Pressco’s Chief Technology Officer, he led the development of nine generations of machine vision products. Today, proof of his outstanding accomplishments can easily be found in the more than 5,000 complete turnkey systems operating on-line at high speeds in 59 countries around the globe.
The annual award, sponsored by the AIA, honors one industry leader for outstanding contributions in promoting market acceptance of industrial and/or scientific imaging. Among the past winners are industry leaders such as David Dechow, Aptúra Machine Vision Solutions; Dr. Steven Case, Chairman of CyberOptics Corporation; Dr.-Ing. Norbert Stein of VITRONICS; Dr. Savvas Chamberlain of DALSA; Perry West of Automated Vision Systems, Inc.; Amir Novini of Applied Vision Company; Nello Zuech of Vision Systems International; Dwight Carlson, formerly of Perceptron; Dr. Robert Shillman of Cognex; Ken Levy of KLA-Tencor; Pat Costa of RVSI, Inc.; and Stan Karandanis of Datacube.

The award is presented each year at the AIA’s Business Conference, a members only event that brings key industry executives together for two and a half days of networking, important machine vision business discussions and presentations that explore emerging markets and new technologies.
