Cognex Announces OEM Agreement with DEK International
Cognex Corporation Posted 06/09/2005
NATICK, Mass. -- June 8, 2005 -- Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ:CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, announced today a multi-year OEM agreement with DEK International, a leading manufacturer of screen printing machinery for the electronics manufacturing industry. Under the agreement, Cognex will supply machine vision systems for DEK's current and future screen printing machines, which are used to imprint circuitry patterns onto the surfaces of computer circuit boards.
Cognex vision systems are used in DEK equipment to align the screen or stencil to each circuit board prior to printing, and then to verify that the position and coverage of the stenciled solder paste is within acceptable limits. Cognex inspection software also checks the screen apertures of the printing equipment for blockages or smearing, which helps maintain print quality and optimizes maintenance steps such as screen cleaning.
‘‘The demands for screen printing accuracy and overall print quality are tougher than ever, as circuit boards continue to become more complex and more densely populated with components,’‘ said John Hartner, Managing Director of DEK International. ‘‘For the past 12 years, DEK has relied on Cognex machine vision to provide the high levels of accuracy and reliability needed. We look forward to continuing that partnership on our next-generation equipment, and to offering the highest performance alignment and inspection capabilities available on DEK screen printers.’‘
DEK, based in Dorset, England, is the world's leading provider of equipment and processes for the high-accuracy mass imaging of electronic materials. DEK offers machines, stencils and screens, consumables and process support products to serve its customers' materials deposition processes.
Cognex Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, and markets machine vision systems, or computers that can ‘‘see.’‘ Cognex is the world's leader in the machine vision industry, having shipped more than 250,000 machine vision systems, representing over $1.7 billion in cumulative revenue, since the company's founding in 1981. Cognex's Modular Vision Systems Division, headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts, specializes in machine vision systems which are used for automating the manufacture of a wide range of discrete items and for assuring their quality. Cognex's Surface Inspection Systems Division, headquartered in Alameda, California, specializes in machine vision systems which are used for inspecting the surfaces of products manufactured in a continuous fashion, such as metals, paper, and plastic. In addition to its corporate headquarters in Natick, Massachusetts, Cognex also has regional offices and distributors located throughout North America, Japan, Europe and Southeast Asia.
