New High-End Color Line Scan Camera
Chromasens GmbH Posted 03/20/2012Chromasens, the image processing specialist from Constance, Germany, is adding a new top model to its high-performance industrial color line scan camera portfolio. The new “allPIXA” model features the latest generation in image processing technology and camera electronics. This allows it to increase the line frequency to a previously unattainable 110 kHz. In order to be able to transmit the generated data quantities in real time, the “allPIXA” is also equipped with a new interface, which allows maximum transfer rates of 510 MB/s. This means that the objects being examined can either be inspected at the previous image quality but considerably quicker, or at the same speed as before and in more detail. Available from now on.
“With “allPIXA”, Chromasens is responding to increasing demands on the functions and performance of industrial line scan cameras. The application fields range from document scanners and print quality inspection to sorting systems and quantity controls, as well as particularly in surface inspection of semiconductors and displays, for example, or in the inspection of natural and artificial materials such as wood, paper and food", explains Markus Schnitzlein, President of Chromasens GmbH.
State-of-the-art chip technology
As in the “ALEOS” family, which has already established itself successfully on the market, modern, trilinear CCD color line scan sensors with a pixel size of 10 μm also form the basis for the image capturing in the “allPIXA” models. The developers have completely redesigned the platform for electronic image processing. It is based on state-of-the-art chip technology from the US company Xilinx, the worldwide leading supplier of integrated, programmable logic ICs, so-called FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays).
The “allPIXA” color line scan camera is available in four resolutions: 1024, 2048, 4096 and 7300 pixels. The resolution of the A/D conversion has been considerably increased from 10 bit to 14 bit.
Intelligent color management
With its diverse application possibilities, the camera system offers the user a unique color consistency. Pioneering technologies, such as continuous white balancing during recording provides a consistently excellent color quality. This creates a solid basis for color recognition solutions and stable color management.
In addition, pixel-based correction ensures the balancing out of different sensitivities of the color pixels and the illumination procedure. An integrated, digital shutter allows that recording continues without information gaps when different track speeds are employed. Changes in the direction of scanning can be monitored independently. The subpixel registration error correction is automatically adjusted when the direction is changed. Further customer-specific image processing functions are available on request.
The more slender front compared with “ALEOS” facilitates the cascading of several, synchronised cameras in close proximity for inspecting larger track widths. The housing, which is suitable for industrial environments, offers a wide range of mounting possibilities. The camera is also equipped with a flexible programmable, digital I/O interface for different signal types (LVDS, LVTTL, RS422), with which, alongside trigger input and output, further control signals are also possible.
