Roberta Nelson Shea
Global Technical Compliance Officer - Universal Robots
Roberta is the Global Technical Compliance Officer at Universal Robots. Prior to joining Universal Robots, Roberta held positions at companies that either use or make safety components and safety control systems or provide safety consulting services. These companies include Rockwell Automation, P&G, Honeywell, Pilz Automation Safety, AMT (Applied Manufacturing Technologies), Symbotic and Safety Compliance Services.
Roberta has been actively involved in the ANSI safety standard for robots and robot systems, ANSI RIA R15.06, since its start in 1982. She has served as Vice-Chair, followed by 23 years as Chair of the R15.06 subcommittee. In addition, Roberta has been involved in the development of a variety of safety standards and technical reports, e.g., USA/ ANSI (B11 series, Z10, Z244.1, UL1740, R15.06, R15 Technical reports R15.106/ .206/ .306/ .406/ .506), Canada/ CSA (Z434, Z432), and ISO (ISO 10218, ISO 11161, TS 15066). She is currently the Convenor of TC299/ WG3 Robots and Robotic Devices, Industrial Robots and Robot Systems.
Roberta was previously a member of the Board of Directors of both ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and RIA (Robotic Industries Association). In 2011 as a part of ASSE’s 100th Anniversary, ASSE (American Society of Safety Engineers) honored her as being one of the “100 Women Making a Difference in the Safety, Health & Environmental Profession” over the past 100 Years.
Ms. Nelson Shea has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from WPI (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) and a Masters in Engineering in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She is a certified Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV Rheinland, #9236/ 14, Machinery).
