I am working on a report on applications of machine vision. I came across terms like "Voxels over Raster Grid" and "Point Clouds", when I was reading about improvements in Machine Vision functions. I am a mechanical engineer and I want to have some basic idea what these terms mean in respect to machine vision. Also how are Embedded Vision and Computer Vision different from Machine Vision.

Are any companies going to Automate/ProMat show in Chicago April 8th-11th, that may be able to help with my issue? This was an older post that I am revisiting. I have a need for some type of vision that can identify the edges of textiles (mostly all white) such as sheets, towels, Wash Clothes, etc. I would envision two types of robotic arms that would be able to fine (grab) the two ends on a side, not opposite ends, and spread them out, to feed into a machine for folding. I understand that the vison may now be able to identify white textile. Any help or a company that may have the vison to do this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff Nichols

How is data transmitted over camera link affected by using cable lengths longer than the 10 meter limit typically specified? Is it just that the highest frame rates cannot be realized, but lower frame rates are possible? Or is it that the image integrity is compromised?

We have a machine which moves forward in a high speed with 5 and 5 bottles in each row. There are about 3,3 seconds between row-shift and I wonder if you have a camera system that can be used or can be modified to suit this kind of inspection?

Hi, I'm working on a tool inspection microscope setup that looks at an edge about .3 mm in radius. fps isn't a big deal, but I'd like to have a very clear image of this edge using a usb camera and an appropriate lens setup. Has anyone ever done this kind of thing before?

We will capture from 11 USB3 cameras (1920 x 1200, 1 byte per pixel) at 100 frames per second. Capture into a single PC ideally. With our own software to process, store and analyse the data. Video data is initially stored in memory, not streamed to disk. This requires a multi port USB expansion solution, probably based on PCI express. We need full USB 3 bandwidth per port. Hence this card appears well suited. Also, I believe the manufacturer offers a 16-port option using 2 DU3X2-IPCIE2XG201 with the one PCIe board (IP8X-PCIE8XG201). That would suit us even better. Is this available? Prices for all would be great.

I need info on the CM-030GE. I'm having trouble keeping a connection with the camera. How is it marking traffic as video? Is it using IP-TOS , 802.1p, or DSCP? And what is the exact marking it is using based on the type?

We have a robot placing pins on a flat glass surface. Then the product get autoclaved, then ground and then other attachments are added via urethane glue. We have an issue that we think the robots are not capable, and we want to add a vision/scaning/camera/laser system that will check the 4 pins to the math data to positions and tolerance. If the part is rejected, we need a signal and a robot will pickup the part and set it aside. We have a 2nd area we also want to do a similar check, since the part goes through a heating cycle. We want to make sure that the pin position did not change and are still go to the math. All this must be automated and data for each part must be stored for SPC work. Need help with coming up with a system in line conveyor to improve quality.

Hi, I need a camera that can output high resolution (8MP +), large sensor (4/3" +) and high colour depth (12-bit +) images. The first two requirements are easy to find. The colour depth is challenging. Which manufacturers have easy 12-bit acquisition? Ideally outputting a 16-bit PNG or TIFF? I don't want to debayer, but I can do colour calibration, gamma etc. Any help is highly appreciated!
