Greg, There are almost an infinite number of machine vision systems out in the world now, and these are gathering pace, due to the AI technologies that are allowing us to do things in this space that just weren't feasible 5 years ago. Trying to relate this to you, one application is seed or plant sorting, selecting viable plants versus nonviable. Looking for disease, selecting plants which require more fertilizer. Hopefully there is something of interest in what I've just listed. As you have 'organic' items, typically Artificial Intelligence based systems is where you should probably start looking. Hi Greg, there are various imaging applications in plant propagation to monitor the plant growth, ensure seed quality, observe the effects of various chemicals on the seed or check the growth of unwanted shrubs to name a few. Monitoring plant Propagation could be concentrated or could be on a wider scale. 1. The concentrated observation involves ant farm approach with the seed propagation being inspected by a time lapse video. 2. The other approach would involve aerial imaging taking advantage of varying wavelengths of light for monitoring the plant growth out in the field. Imaging could be flexible according to the characteristic to be observed. Feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss more details about any of these approaches.

Greg, We are doing some work with flower petal age stage recognition that may be relevant. The process consists of: 1. Obtaining spectral images of all classes of interest. 2. Applying our newly patented method to determine an optimum combination of bands to differentiate the classes of interest. 3. Collecting only information from those bands to differentiate the classes.
