Cables / Cable Assemblies / Connectors Questions

Question Asked:

Hello, I'm looking for fiber-optic components and to capture microscopic images (in a relatively controlled environment). The feature resolution would be as small as 10-20 microns. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Andy, There is a bit more information needed to determine your needs, but I thought I would ask some questions to maybe help generate some thoughts. Are you looking at the surface in 2D or 3D, do you only care about the visual appearance, or do you want to know what the surface is doing in 3D space. When you talk about 10 - 20 microns is this the size of a defect or surface finish feature, or is this the area that you care to look at (otherwise known as Field of View)? The size of the smallest thing that you want to be able to see generally inversely drives the cost of a system, or increases the inspection time. It is important to know the smallest thing you want to see, as everything else is a function of this. Please feel free to share more information either on this forum, or send me an email. Andy
