What kind of lighting do I use to find and see the hidden pictures or writings in a Shepard knock down ceiling?
Hi Joy, Do you mean the pictures or writings are behind the paint? If so, you might have to find the appropriate wavelength of light, may be NIR or IR that could give more information, or try using bandpass filters for certain wavelengths to find it. Thanks!

I want to detect air bubbles leaking up using a camera. The brazed adapters are loaded in an air under water tester. When the brazed area has voids the high pressure air leaks air bubbles from inside the adapter to the outside water. Can a camera detect the air bubbles and provide signal?
Hi Kenneth, The camera would be able to detect the air bubbles and provide a signal. There are a few factors to be considered in this case though. 1. How deep is the adapter under water or what would be the pressure underwater where you would want to place the camera? 2.Is the water flowing or is it stationary? has anyone done a "taxonomy" on this space that would help me understand the difference between object recognition, machine vision, computer vision and video analytics?
Object recognition can be understood as one of the steps of computer vision. 'Computer vision' as a whole involves processing the image with required enhancements which would make the features of interest stand out in the image and allow it to make decisions based on them. Defining these features and categorizing them is 'Object Recognition'. Computer vision when applied in an industrial setting or a practical application which involves taking actions(setting on a buzzer,triggering the robot, etc) based on the vision system results, is usually referred as 'Machine Vision'. 'Video analytics', as the name suggests, involves analyzing the entire video which could involve applying computer vision to the frames of the video and generate analysis reports.

I would like to collect data on small plants in the greenhouse and correlate that to later plant phenotype in the field. This data would be use to build a model for early elimination of plants from the production process that are unlikely to have the desired phenotype. What type of system would be used to do this?
Hi Greg, you could collect the data by imaging the greenhouse in multiple spectrum. You would be able to extract different data from the plants at different wavelengths. The unconventional plants can then be located by acquiring the coordinates from the images. These plants can then be correlated to their later phenotype and the algorithm could be used to decide whether they should be eliminated or kept.
What are some imaging applications in plant propagation?
Hi Greg, there are various imaging applications in plant propagation to monitor the plant growth, ensure seed quality, observe the effects of various chemicals on the seed or check the growth of unwanted shrubs to name a few. Monitoring plant Propagation could be concentrated or could be on a wider scale. 1. The concentrated observation involves ant farm approach with the seed propagation being inspected by a time lapse video. 2. The other approach would involve aerial imaging taking advantage of varying wavelengths of light for monitoring the plant growth out in the field.
