Standards Activities at the Automate 2015 Show
The Automate 2015 Show is quickly approaching and we have a slight change in our approach this year. Look for us in the Association for Advancing Automation (A3) Campus, Booth 800, where all three daughter associations (AIA, RIA and MCA) each have a display area. Within the AIA section, vision standards will have 2 tables containing literature on all digital interface standards, a Camera Link HS demo provided by Matrox and the USB3 Vision Technical Committee’s multi-camera demo. Stop by and catch up on all the latest information. Remember, it’s all about interoperability!
From a meeting perspective, this year we will have one meeting for all vision standards. This will be open to the Coordinating Committees and the public. During this first ever Vision Standards User’s Group meeting, I will provide an overview of vision standards, highlighting the new standards brochure, and key members from each Technical Committee will provide a brief update on their standards. The floor will then be opened to address any questions or future wants in the standards from the audience. First Camera Link HS products at VISION 2014!
Teledyne DALSA, Matrox, PCO and Silicon Software launched their first Camera Link HS (CLHS) products at VISION 2014! On the CX4 copper interface:
Teledyne DALSA - Piranha XL Camera and Xtium CLHS PX4 Frame Grabber
Matrox - Radient eV-CLHS Frame Grabber |

|
On the fiber interface:
PCO - Edge 4.2 and 5.5, & Flow Cameras
Silicon Software - microEnable 5 Ironman CLHS Series Frame Grabbers |

|
Additionally, sales of the CLHS IP core are moving along steadily, showing the value of the reference design and pointing even more products on the horizon. For information on the IP Cores, click here.

Latest News for for Camera Link, Camera Link HS, GigE Vision and USB3 Vision Standards
Camera Link:
- Defining Camera Link on FPGA requirements and testing
- HDR/SDR standoff proposal
Camera Link HS:
- Continuing work on CLHS Rev 2: Multiple ROI, data types/bit depths within single frame, 3D Pixel format support
- Updating the CLHS IP core to Rev 2
- X protocol core now includes Forward Error Correction (FEC) and the Physical Coding Sublayer (PCS)
- Clarification of Revision 1 specification continues for PlugFest at Spring Standards meeting.
GigE Vision:
- James Falconer from Pleora was elected to the position of vice-chair of the GigE Vision committee.
- Finalizing the content of 3D data support which is now ready for integration into the text of the spec., including the necessary changes to the GenICam Pixel Format Naming Convention
- Discussions to progress the standardization of a locking connector, trying to maintain compatibility with already available GigE Vision cameras. The locking connector specification will likely be a complementary document to the GigE Vision specification.
- Pursuing a GigE Vision accessory program to allow the registration of products that have been designed to supplement GigE Vision products, but are not implementing the full GigE Vision standard. For instance, this could be a Power-over-Ethernet switch that offers locking connectors compatible with GigE Vision cameras.
- Next version of the specification to be released in the first half of 2015.
USB3 Vision:
High frame rate optimization
- Multiple image streams
- Cable compliance testing
- Type C Locking connector in coordination with UBB-IF
