Vitronic’s machine vision system VINSPEC identifies oil sumps offloaded from palettes, so that the following processing machines can be automatically configured for the appropriate type. Unlike conventional identification methods which require some form of marking (label, stamp, etc.), VINSPEC identifies each oil sump solely by its shape or design. The oil sumps are presented to a camera in a stationary position for approximately one second and are identified by means of trained geometric features. As quickly as 0.5 seconds after the component comes to a stop, the identification result is transmitted to the system PLC via CAN bus. VINSPEC has an easy to teach, modular system structure that allows it to learn the shape of a new oil sump type within minutes. This automatic verification replaces the personnel previously required.
